McCain wrote the NC GOP leader saying he deplores such ads:

“From the beginning of this election, I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement.”

McCain can write all the letters he wants…but he’s not going to be able to stop all those GOP PACs and 527 groups who will fund such crap advertisement. I hope Howie has something in store to combat McCain and his followers.

The funny thing is when Wright says “God damn America,” the next few things he says are things that do indeed make me ashamed to be a citizen of this country. Ya know, meddling with peoples all around the world and supporting dictators and whatnot.

When right-wingnuts do the same number, they talk about gays and crazy sex - which is a little harder for me to get worked up about.

Of course, thinking’s a little tough for their core electorate who think wearing a stars-and-stripes pantsuit is the best possible thing.

PS - I see in the dynamic between the candidates’ supporters two different views of the Democratic party. And note that they exist as supporters of *both* candidates.

One set is the old group that pisses themselves everytime a Republican comes up with a specious personal attack (and if you have been in contact with enough people to make it to national office you WILL brush across unsavory people - the question is how much support you provide and pull from them).

The other is the set that believes it is time to stand up and counterpunch and pivot every time one of these things comes up. Hillary goes nuclear, Barack opens his mouth and lands himself in the history books.

Both of these people have a way to win. But the moment we let the Republicans define “electability,” we’ve already lost.

How much of the money needed to pay for that ad came from the John McCain’s national Republican Party, I wonder?

Nobody should be surprised that the state that brought us Jesse Helms would stoop to this level.

I told y’all that Obama would be a drag on other candidates. The GOP is going to have a fun time if we do not hurry up and correct the mistake we’re about to make.

Rural,

For any county that has more than 2 African Americans, Obama will only help the down ballot candidates.

In my county, Hillary will hamper the people we have running for local offices, not help.

RD we haven’t seen the effects of this ad and generally governors races are decided independent of the party/national wave, which is why we have held the WY governorship for 24 of the past 28 years.

Oops. That was me, Rubyduby, and not Bezerko who knows for a fact that Hillary will hamper the down ballot candidates in my area.

Just to clarify…

RD,

If anyone in this country goes for these McCarthyist tactics, we’re all totally screwed.

The analogous thing for Hillary is talking about how a real patriot like John McCain would never expose our great military to teh gey.

We’re talking about three degrees of separation here.

And I really, really invite John McCain to a pastor-off.
