Sorry for the cross-post, but it’s I’ve been kinda quiet around here.
But there is at least one time a year where I might enjoy the guilty pleasure of such irritating reality TV: the season openers. You know, the come-one-come-all auditions where we get to watch Simon et al absolutely berate some squeaky, no-talent narcissist for having the audacity to think they should ever sing outside their own shower? That’s some good stuff! If it’s good for nothing else (and it isn’t), at least Idol provides that good dose of schadenfreude.
I’ve spent the past few weeks excitedly sending emails, making phone calls, and explaining the technicalities of Democratic party registration to my family and friends in the Los Angeles area. You see, I am running to be an Obama delegate representing California’s 30th District at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Or at least, I was running until the Obama campaign cut me from the list.

At first blush this all seems so wrong, doesn’t it? I mean, if you want to be a delegate, bring your friends to vote for you, make a perky speech, and voila you get to go to the big show. But, what if, in the process, someone who has worked tirelessly in some back office (or in their kitchen, more likely), doesn’t have a boatload (or literally a busload) of friends/family/church members to spend most of a Saturday sitting around waiting to vote, doesn’t get a chance at the big show? Is that fair?
I don’t know if it is or not. I do remember in 2004 thinking that the process didn’t seem quite right. This cycle there seems to be much more strategy involved… wonder why that is? heheh.

Right, I am *totally* with you on that, Catherine, and I do think some Joe Blow with a $25 contribution and nary an hour phone-banking or anything ought to be the first off the list. But if a Precinct Captain can’t make it, who the hell are these “approved” candidates?

I didn’t mean to ignore the point of your post.
I don’t know what it takes, but there has already been some snarky stuff going on here.

Dang. Hit enter before I finished.
It will be interesting to see how the campaigns determine the potential for loyalty. If, as you wonder, we’ll even be privy to that information.

Lord knows the rumors are flying like crazy around Georgia about the blood letting that will be the list trim.
And it’s not just Obama…the Clinton campaign office is doing it too. It would be nice if they actually looked at the activism of those who have applied, because honestly those of us who apply to be delegates know what we’re doing and the consequences if we were to just “switch” on the floor.
I will like to see if they do anything stupid, like cut people from the list based on false race assumptions. That’s for BOTH campaigns!
I’ll also see if maybe we can’t see Rev. Samuels of DeKalb who doesn’t do CRAP EVER for Democrats but shows up with two busloads of his parishioners from Victory Baptist every 4 years to the 4th District voting to get elected as a delegate.

So glad I will not be attending my district voting aka freak on.
Fairness in party politics, surely you jest!

I think the people who vote at the caucuses for the delegates should be vetted, more than the potential delegates.
Can’t really give a reason other than I just feel that way.

Actually I think IRE is onto something there….
