this is a new one.

(Not saying where this came from.)

the only higher office DuBose wants is governor. He DOES NOT want to go to D.C., even if he says he is running for congress.

Unless we know the context, it’s hard to comment. Someone could have just cooked this up in PhotoShop.

That would be the 8th Congressional District, right?
Porter running against Marshall? No way.
Now, if Marshall loses like some of the members in the lunatic* wing of our party want, then, well, he should run for that seat in 2010.
Which, considering we don’t know the source, I really doubt that’s a serious picture. It’s probably something trackboy or some other anti-porter person created as a joke!
* (Lunatic does not refer to or hint at the liberal or “progressive” wing of the party. I’m simply grouping a category of nutjobs into a new wing)

As a member of the anti-Dubose Porter wing of the party, I had nothing to do with this. I don’t even know how to operate Photoshop.
However, remember RuralDem, in Georgia you don’t have to be a resident of a congressional district in order to run for that seat. You can live anywhere in the state and run for any congressional district in the state.

You can do that in any other state as well.

Is that a federal rule or state rule? Because it is dumb as hell.

DG,
Yeah but how many people have done that in our state? In addition to that, how many have actually won?
I can’t think of anyone. Even John Barrow moved into his district.

David Scott didn’t live in his district (still not sure that he does). Phil Gingrey initially did not live in the old 11th district although I believe he either moved into it or the district lines moved and included his residence. I could be wrong but at one time or another I don’t think John Linder lived in his district (back in the ’90’s). It was often rumored that Saxby Chambliss’s real residence was outside of the old 8th district that he represented.
To answer Jen’s question, the Constitution merely says that someone must inhabit the State they hope to represent in the House. Though I’m sure that his has been challenged and upheld by the Supreme Court, I’m not aware of the actual cases.

I suspect this goes way back to the early days of our country, but today applies to less populous states.

Chris,
Thanks for that information. I didn’t know any of that!

might this be the source? http://www.northfultondemocrats.org/ — LOL, looks like the web editor gave DuBose the wrong title….

Ha! Maybe someone didn’t realize that a Georgia State Representitive isn’t a Congressman?

Good grief.
